About Us

We’re La Rancherita Taqueria y Gordita, and we are a Mexican restaurant here in Des Moines, IA. We offer gorditas, burritos, tacos, and more. We started this business because the owner, Trinidad always loved to cook for friends and family so she started a food truck many years ago. After many hot summers and cold winters, she saved enough to open a full restaurant. We aim to use our authentic Mexican dishes to bring a little bit of Mexico to Des Moines. We’re looking forward to partnering with Polk County and surrounding area consumers to continue to offer a premier Mexican restaurant experience. We’d like to personally invite you to stop by for one of our pozoles, today!

We had a great time, Trinidad was our waitress and was so sweet and helpful and we had so much fun. The food was great and the drinks were amazing!! But honestly it was the service that will have me coming back again and again!! Des Moines has so many hidden gems and here's another one! I know, no one thinks of Iowa as a state to find quality and legitimate Mexican food - but I promise this place delivers! It's an elevated Mom and Pop with lively music and authentic Mexican food. Every dish was so divine and danced across my palate. The customer service was top tier. Staff were so friendly and personable. Definitely schedule a lunch date here! The huarache was fantastic. As I said, authentic Mexican dishes are here!

We ordered 2 dinner meals & alcoholic drinks with cheese dip for our chips & it was under $50! It’s so close to our house & the service was so nice. The owner was working very hard. You can tell she takes pride in her restaurant. It’s a super nice atmosphere. Very clean & cute inside. This will definitely be a regular spot for us now & we’re so glad we found & tried it! Amazing food!
